Update on Craport, Ingram, and Wiley

Three more former Valley Leaguers are performing rather well for their college teams in the 2017 NCAA season-

  • Trevor Craport (Harrisonburg 2016) is hitting 342/438/589 through 18 games and 73 at-bats for Georgia Tech. He has 7 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 17 runs scored, 15 RBIs, and an excellent 12/9 BB/K ratio.
  •  Dylan Ingram (Strasburg 2016), at Auburn, is hitting 292/415/431 in 19 games and 65 at-bats. He has 6 doubles, 1 home run, and a sterling 15/8 BB/K ratio.
  • Zac Wiley (Front Royal 2016) has missed a couple games for Bellarmine, but over 42 at-bats, he’s hitting 452/538/786, with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, and an 8/7 BB/K ratio.

Keep it up, guys!

Three Named NCBWA DI Preseason All-Americans

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has released its 2017 preseason college All-American teams, and three former Valley Leaguers have made the cut!

First of all, Bryson Bowman (Charles Town 2015), from Western Carolina, was named to the second team. Bryson hit 326/442/661 in 227 at-bats in 2016, clearly earning a spot among the best players in the nation.

Secondly, Trevor Craport (Harrisonburg 2016), from Georgia Tech, was named to the 3rd team. (And was also the #14 hitter in the VBL in 2016.) Trevor hit 352/414/543 in 199 at-bats in 2016.

Last, but not least, is Austin Edens (Staunton 2015), from Samford, who was also named to the 3rd team. Austin hit 311/375/598 in 241 at-bats, along with 12 doubles and 19 home runs in 2016. Austin was also the 8th best hitter in the VBL in 2015.

Congrats to all three!

#14 Hitter: Trevor Craport, Harrisonburg

Trevor Craport Ga TEch 2016This doesn’t happen very often, but the #14 hitter is the second Harrisonburg Turk in a row- Trevor Craport, from Georgia Tech!

Trevor, coming off an excellent college season with Tech, hit an excellent 319/388/445 in 32 games and 119 at-bats for the Turks, along with 20 runs, 28 RBIs, 7 doubles, 4 triples, and an excellent 12/10 BB/K ratio. Just for kicks, he threw in 8 stolen bases in 9 attempts. He was an all-star, and even pitched one perfect inning for the team. His best game was on June 26, when he went 4-5, with 2 runs, 4 RBIs, and 2 doubles.

For the Ramblin Wreck this spring as a sophomore, Trevor hit 352/414/543 in 199 at-bats, with 40 runs, 31 RBIs, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, 4 stolen bases, and a 17/17 BB/K ratio. He was 2nd on the team in both batting average and slugging percentage, 3rd in on-base percentage, and was the toughest to strike out.

Trevor pitched in 7 games as a freshman, but did not bat.

Congrats on a great summer, Trevor!

Front Royal 2, Covington 1 (12 innings)

Harrisonburg 12, Strasburg 7

Hitter of the Day

Trevor Craport Ga TEch 2016Our hitter of the day is Harrisonburg’s Trevor Craport, from Georgia Tech! Trevor was one of four players with 4 hits in the Strasburg-Harrisonburg game. He went 4-5, with 2 runs, 4 RBIs, and 2 doubles. He’s now hitting a robust 405/447/524 in 42 at-bats for the Turks. Interestingly, Trevor was a pitcher at Georgia Tech in his freshman year in 2015. In 2016, he moved to third base, and hit 352/414/543 in 199 at-bats. Sounds like the sophomore made the right choice.

Others of Note

Ryan Hall, Staunton: 2-4, run, BB
Keegan Maronport, Staunton: 1-1, run, 2 RBIs, HBP, 3 BB
Tyler Halas, Strasburg: 4-5, run, RBI, BB
Carter Pharis, Strasburg: 2-4, 2 RBIs, BB, HBP (Hottest hitter in the Valley right now???)
Dylan Ingram, Strasburg: 2-5, BB
Erick Delgado, Strasburg: 4-5, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, SB
Jonathan Pryor, Harrisonburg: 4-5, 3 runs, 3 RBIs, 2B, SB
Mason George, Harrisonburg: 2-4, 4 RBIs, run, BB, 2B, HR
Tanner Dofflemyer, Harrisonburg: 3-4, 2 runs, 2B

Pitcher of the Day

Our pitcher of the day is Donovan Futrell, from Covington! Donovan threw 5 shutout innings in relief, allowing only 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 9. Donovan came in the game in the 5th inning, and pitched until there were 2 outs in the 10th. Donovan is a redshirt freshman at Broward. So far this summer, he hasn’t given up an earned run in 14 2/3 innings. He’s allowed 12 hits, 2 walks, and has struck out 19. If he continues with this dominance, it looks like Donovan will be on ATVL’s top relievers list at the end of the season!
