Baseball! From Saturday, July 26

Some interesting things happened last night! First of all, six games were played- yay!- but some other odd things were going on, too. Start reading!

Scores

  • Staunton 15, New Market 1: Game one of Staunton’s mix-and-match doubleheader. The Braves ripped the Rebels, scoring early and often. The Braves starting substituting after just three innings. This loss, coupled with Aldie’s win, eliminated the Rebels from the playoff chase.
  • Waynesboro 13, Staunton 1: A tale of two games (cities) for the Braves. Blowouts both ways. The Generals pounded out 16 hits and 13 runs to pull into a half-game lead for 2nd place, just ahead of the Braves and Front Royal.
  • Woodstock 9, Strasburg 8: Take a look at the boxscore. I’ll wait. Seriously- go look. Notice anything strange? No, not the fact that Woodstock scored 8 runs in the 8th inning to overcome a Strasburg 8-1 lead. Look at Strasburg’s Tyler McDonald- he played all nine positions for the Express, including pitching in the fateful 8th inning. Take a look at the next post about what this win means for the Bandits.
  • Winchester 3, Front Royal 2: Nate Traugh and Brandon Valentin held the Cardinals to 4 hits to keep the Royals’ slim playoff hopes alive…
  • Aldie 7, Charles Town 4: The Senators, still in 8th place, received excellent nights from Joseph Consolmagno, Tremayne Toorie, and Matt Albanese to keep a grip on the last playoff spot.
