Major League Record Book: Runs in a Season

Now we begin the best individual seasons in each category. I must warn you, though- Jason Kipnis and Daniel Murphy, the two best hitters in the past 10 years to come through the Valley, dominate almost all these lists. In fact, in some off them, they cover the top 8 between the two of them.

Remember, though, that this is from the 2006 draft, although I will throw a Brett Gardner sighting in there after the table. I’m discussing with Dave Norman at the moment about how to try to put an all-time MLB record book together…. maybe in a couple years.

Most runs is a major league season since the 2006 draft:

1 Dan Murphy Luray ’05 2013 92
2 Jason Kipnis Covington ’06-7 2016 91
3 Dan Murphy Luray ’05 2016 88
4 Jason Kipnis Covington ’06-7 2012 86
Jason Kipnis Covington ’06-7 2013 86
Jason Kipnis Covington ’06-7 2015 86
7 Dan Murphy Luray ’05 2014 79
8 Jon Jay Staunton ’04 2013 75
9 Jon Jay Staunton ’04 2012 70
10 Dan Murphy Luray ’05 2012 62

Brett Gardner Addition: Brett has had 6 seasons that would make this list:

  • 97 runs in 2010
  • 94 runs in 2015
  • 87 in both 2011 and 2014
  • 81 in 2013
  • 80 in 2016

Wow. He would hold down 1st and 2nd, plus two tied for 6th.

Murphy and Kipnis hold down 4 spots each, and Jon Jay has the other 2.
