Quaranta, Sterry, and Ward Off to Scorching Starts

The college baseball season is underway, which means, first of all, the opportunity to watch some baseball (if you live close enough, of course), and secondly, more stats!

While pecking around checking up on some of the top performers from the 2016 season, ATVL found three players who are off to scorching starts to their college seasons.

Let’s take a look:

  • Brandon Quaranta (Strasburg 2016) is crushing the ball for Philadelphia University after 4 games and 16 at-bats. Overall, he’s hitting 563/588/1.250, with 6 runs scored, 7 RBIs, 2 doubles, and 3 home runs. As a bonus, Brandon is planning to rejoin the Express this summer!
  • Nick Ward (Woodstock 2016) is ripping for West Chester. He’s also played 4 games and has accumulated 14 at-bats. He’s hitting 571/684/929, with 9 runs scored, 4 RBIs, 2 doubles, and 1 home run. He’s also walked 3 times.
  • Zach Sterry (Waynesboro 2016) is continuing his torrid hitting for Oakland after 8 games and 32 at-bats. ATVL’s #1 hitter in 2016 is now hitting 375/421/813, with 5 runs, 10 RBIs, 2 doubles, 4 home runs, and 4 walks.

Keep it up, guys! (And by the way, if anyone knows of other alumni doing well out there, drop me a message!)

  1. As usual, JL, great stuff. Jogged my memory of Zach Sterry’s night at New Market, July 22, 2016. Against Rebels starter Davis Kirkpatrick (East Carolina): Kc (4 pitches), K (3 pitches), K (5 pitches); facing reliever Logan Weins (Western Kentucky) 1B-9, RBI; and vs. closer Matt Oset (Seminole State College) Kc (3 pitches). The Rebels won, 10-7, against the first place Generals, as Chase DeMars (South Carolina) went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run; Bowen McGuffin (South Carolina) was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, a run, and a walk; and Jason Costa (Furman) bashed a 3-run dinger. Oh, and Sterry was apparently so frustrated about all those whiffs, he was tossed in the 9th for barking from the dugout. The only other four strikeout game by Sterry last season was at Woodstock, July 17th. He was 2-for-6 with 5 RBI, including a grand slam.
