The #8 hitter in the 2016 Valley League season is New Market’s Chase DeMars, from Harford Community College! Chase hit 336/409/493 for the Rebels, with 33 runs, 27 RBIs, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 5 stolen bases, and a solid 13/28 BB/K ratio in 152 at-bats. He went 1-3 with a run and a double in the all-star game, and was named first team All-Valley at 2nd base after the season. He led the Rebels in batting average, hits, tied for first in home runs, and was second in runs and RBIs. His best games were on July 20 at Strasburg, when he went 4-4 with a run, RBI, and walk, and just two days later, on July 22, when he went 4-5 with a run and 2 RBIs.

The USC Columbia recruit has spent two years at Harford CC, and has performed very well both years. In 2015, he hit 474/552/579 in 57 at-bats (looks like maybe he should have played a bit more), with 20 runs, 15 RBIs, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 8 stolen bases, and a 7/2 BB/K ratio. He also threw two perfect innings on the mound.

He moved into a full time role in 2016, and hit 358/471/679 in 218 at-bats. He scored 72 runs, drove in 48, hit 22 doubles, 6 triples, and 12 home runs, stole 7 bases, and walked almost twice the number of times he struck out, as he walked 43 times and had 22 strikeouts.

Congratulations on your excellent summer, Chase!
