League Record Book: On-Base Percentage

Let’s take a look at the next category in my 2004-2016 league record book: on-base percentage!

1 Nick Sinay Front Royal 2014 0.534
2 Jordan Tarsovich Strasburg 2013 0.522
3 Cole Gruber Waynesboro 2014 0.518
4 Luke Greinke Winchester 2007 0.517
5 Ryan Sullivan Covington 2012 0.516
Blake Sipe Staunton 2012 0.516
7 Mike Schwartz Harrisonburg 2009 0.508
8 Mike Marcinko Waynesboro 2014 0.502
9 Tyler Townsend Winchester 2008 0.500
10 Jason Kipnis Covington 2007 0.498

Again, as you can see, no 2016 hitters made the list. Woodstock’s Nick Ward was the closest, with a .468 OBP.

Otherwise, this list is full of former and current minor leaguers- and one major leaguer. A major league all-star, no less!

Nick Sinay, Jordan Tarsovich, and Cole Gruber are all current minor leaguers. Luke Greinke, Mike Schwartz, and Tyler Townsend have all played in affiliated ball, but do not any longer. Jason Kipnis, of course, is the starting second baseman for the Cleveland Indians, and has been an All-Star twice. He is probably the most decorated Valley League alumnus over the past few years… with Daniel Murphy not too far behind.

There you have it- top “on-basers” in the past 13 seasons!
