The Strasburg Express are now one game away from winning a second consecutive Jim Lineweaver Cup after a 7-6 victory at home over the Waynesboro Generals Thursday night.
Strasburg rode the bat and arm of Brandon Quaranta, from Philadelphia University, who hit a 3-run home run in the first inning, an RBI single in the 3rd, and pitched the last two innings for a save, without allowing a hit, run, or walk, while striking out 4.
Dylan Ingram hit an RBI double in the 3rd, followed by a Michael Curry RBI single, and in the 5th, Carter Pharis scored on a wild pitch.
The Generals got a 2-run triple from Brent Sakurai in the 2nd, along with a Sam Palensky 2-run single, and Zack Sterry hit yet another home run, a 2-run shot, in the 7th. Waynesboro was unable to push across a tying run against Quaranta in the last two innings.
The teams play again tonight, this time in Waynesboro. The Generals will try to send it to a third game, while the Express will try to end the 2016 VBL season.
Player of the Game
Well, as you can tell from the above, it has to be Brandon Quaranta. Brandon is hitting an unholy 520/571/1.200 in 25 at-bats in the playoffs, along with 2 doubles and 5 home runs. He’s also thrown 4 shutout innings in relief. Last night, he led the Express with both his arm and bat, which makes him the player of the game.
Strasburg (Benjamin Dum) at Waynesboro (Tyler Howe)- What a matchup this is! Howe threw a complete game shutout in the first round of the playoffs against Staunton, and Dum threw 8 innings of one-run ball in round one against Purcellville. This could be a low scoring game!
