Hitter of the Day

Zach Sterry Oakland 2016Tough choice today, but our hitter of the day is Waynesboro’s Zach Sterry, from Oakland! Zach went 2-4, with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, a walk, and a home run, his 8th. Zach is now hitting 301/443/687 this summer, with 8 doubles, 19 runs, 20 RBIs, and a 20/19 BB/K ratio. Zach has hit home runs in 4 straight games, and his 8 total is almost halfway to the most home runs in a season since 2004- Joseph Odom’s (Winchester) 17 in 2012. (His slugging percentage is the 5th best since 2004, too. At this pace, anyway.)

For the 4th time this summer, the pitcher of the day is Front Royal’s Erne Valdes, the lefty from St. Thomas! ErneErne Valdez St Thomas threw 5 innings against the Express, allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run, 4 walks, and struck out 6. He didn’t get the win, but his game score of 61 was the highest from the night. Overall this summer, Erne is now 2-1, 1.03, with 16 hits, 13 walks, and 45 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings pitched.
