So, I’ll admit that I’m not physically in the Valley at the moment. Mentally, I may be, but I’m not bodily there. So it’s been a mite bit wet, eh? Two more games were wiped out last night- poor Covington; we’re five days into the season and the ‘Jacks haven’t played a game yet. It will be interesting to see how the league makes up all these postponements.
At any rate, here’s what happened yesterday:
Purcellville vs Covington; Charlottesville vs Waynesboro PPD
Winchester 10, Woodstock 6
Strasburg 4, New Market 3
Staunton 5, Harrisonburg 3
Hitter of the Day
Our hitter of the day for Sunday is Staunton’s Andrew Kowalo, from Liberty! Andrew went 4-4 in his 2nd game in the Valley, with a run, RBI, and a double. He’s now 4-8 on the year so far. A transfer from Potomac State, Andrew hit 271/380/452 in 177 at-bats in his first season in Lynchburg.

Pitcher of the Day
Our pitcher of the day is the 6-foot-6 righthander from Memphis, Jonathan Bowlan! Jonathan had an excellent start for the New Market Rebels, finishing 7 innings while allowing 4 hits, 1 unearned run, 1 walk, and striking out 3. He did not get a decision, but the Rebels had a 3-1 lead when he left the game. His game score is 69. As a freshman, Jonathan went 2-6, 4.42 in 55 innings for the Tigers.
Other of Note
Benjamin Dum, Strasburg: 6 IP, 6 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 3 K’s, game score of 57
No games- if I’m remembering correctly, the league holds a meeting the first Monday after the season opens. Games resume Tuesday!
