Minor League Record Book: Walks in a Season

Most walks in a minor league season by a Valley League alumnus since the 2006 draft….

1 Sherman Johnson Covington ’09-10 2015- 89

2 Sherman Johnson Covington ’09-10 2014- 88

3 AJ Kirby-Jones Waynesboro ’09 2012- 86

4 Tyler White Haymarket ’10 2015- 84

5 Tyler Bortnick Front Royal ’06 2011- 79

Clint Robinson Harrisonburg ’05-06 2012- 79

Joey Butler New Market ’06 2012- 79

Ryan Schmipf Luray ’08 2013- 79

9 Rob Kral Waynesboro ’09 2013- 78

10 Ryan Schmipf Luray ’08 2012- 71

Another fun list! Twp new ones- Sherman Johnson set the new record with 89 walks, and Tyler White came in at #4 with 84 walks. Johnson and Ryan Schmipf are listed twice, and only one player is out of organized ball- AJ Kirby-Jones. AJ, though, has put in two really, really good seasons in Independent ball in 2014 and 2015.

More on Sherman Johnson in a bit. Did you know that he led the entire NCAA in walks his last year at Florida State?
