Minor League Record Book: Career Home Runs

Yep, the big category. Home runs. Major league teams are always looking for it. (One of my Kenyan students asked me just yesterday about baseball- specifically, what is the best feeling you can have playing baseball? He mentioned a nutmeg in soccer (football here). I said that it has to be hitting a game-winning home run, or just any old home run. Do you agree, brilliant reader?)

Most minor league home runs since 2006 draft:

1 Clint Robinson Harrisonburg ’05-06 141

2 Ryan Schimpf Luray ’08 113

3 Tony Thomas Harrisonburg ’05 84

4 Blake Tekotte Woodstock ’06 83

Ben Guez Covington ’06 83

6 Joey Butler New Market ’06 82

7 Rebel Ridling Covington ’06 76

8 Jon Griffin Luray ’10 71

9 AJ Kirby-Jones Waynesboro ’09 64

Rudy Flores Haymarket ’10 64

Robinson, Tekotte, and Butler have all played in the major leagues. The first players listed are all still active, but Ridling, Griffin (who hit 4 home runs in one game in Double-A), and Kirby-Jones (who is still mashing in Indy ball) are all out of organized baseball. Flores is also still active.

You can see from this list how Clint Robinson finally earned his playing time in the majors in 2015- he hit at every level. It will be interesting to see if Ryan Schimpf can eventually catch Clint- he’s 28 home runs behind. (And Clint seems to be done with the minor leagues… at least we can hope he is!)

RBIs are next!
