So Minor League Baseball’s main website (milb.com) is running a voting campaign for several different categories of awards- from “Top Offensive Player” all the way down to “Best Blooper.”
Being your designated searcher for all things about the Valley League, dear reader, I am happy to announce that two different former VBLers are up for an award.
The first is Tyler White (Haymarket 2010), who is up for Top Offensive Player. The site wrote about Tyler: “A late pick in the 2013 Draft, White spent this year mashing between the Minors’ top two levels. A .415 on-base percentage in the Texas League put him in the PCL for the second half. With the Triple-A National Champion Grizzlies, he collected 20 extra-base hits while batting .362.”
The second is Chris Devenski (Woodstock 2011), who is up for the award called “Best Individual Performance.” The writeup: “With all eyes on El Paso, Fresno’s Chris Devenski twirled a gem in his Pacific Coast League debut as the right-hander gave up just one hit and struck out nine over seven innings to help the Grizzlies defeat the Columbus Clippers for the Triple-A National Championship.”
Voting ends on October 27th, and for some reason, THERE IS NO LIMIT ON VOTING. The site actually says “vote as often as you’d like.” I’ve voted for our two heroes multiple times already, and I hope to vote many, many times more.
