#13 Starting Pitcher: Reid Clements, Covington

Reid Clements

Our 13th best starting pitcher from the 2015 Valley League season is Middle Tennessee State’s Reid Clements!

Reid had an excellent season for the Lumberjacks, finishing 3-2, 2.43, with 40 hits allowed, 15 walks, and 42 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings pitched. (More strikeouts than innings pitched is a great way to show up on this list, by the way.) Reid’s WHIP was 1.351, his BB/9 was 3.3, and his K/9 was an excellent 9.3.

His best start was on July 15 at Harrisonburg, when he shut out the Turks over 7 innings, allowing only 6 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 7. He also threw an excellent game on June 26 at Woodstock, allowing 6 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and striking out 10 in only 6 2/3 innings pitched.

Reid has been enrolled at Middle Tennessee for two years. In 2014, he threw only a third of an inning, and took a redshirt. (But he was still named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll!) He wasn’t eligible in 2015, so this spring looks to be his first full college season.

He has definitely set himself up nicely for success after the summer! Congrats, Reid!
