Game: “Triple-A National Championship:” Fresno, from the Pacific Coast League vs. Columbus, from the International League
Where: Southwest University Park, El Paso, Texas
When: Tuesday, September 22
Results: Not only did Fresno hammer Columbus, 7-0, but former Valley Leaguer Chris Devenski (Woodstock 2011), making his first ever start in Triple-A, dominated the game for Fresno, and was named MVP at the conclusion.
Devenski threw 6 perfect innings to start the game, while also setting a National Championship record with 9 strikeouts. He completed 7 shutout innings and allowed only 1 hit, and didn’t walk a single batter. He also hit 96 mph on the radar gun.
In Kelsie Heneghan’s article for milb.com, Chris said, “Every time I go out there, it’s more so to challenge myself and push and seeing what I can do and how far I can go. I was pretty happy that I came up big.”
Tyler White, also a Valley League alum (Haymarket 2010), had 2 hits, a run scored, RBI, double, and a walk for Fresno.
Congratulations to both players- from the Shenandoah Valley to the height of Triple-A!
