Front Royal 8, Strasburg 3 (Series tied, 1-1)
The Cardinals forced a deciding game 3 with a relatively easy 8-3 victory over Strasburg last night.
Front Royal used the long ball to win this one going away. Chance Lunceford hit a 2-run home run in the 3rd inning to put the Cards up, 2-1, and then Colby Dishmond hit a 3-run homer in the 7th to make the score 7-1.
Randy Dobnak continued his strong pitching in this one- he started and threw a solid 6 innings for the win. Patrick Coffin made his first appearance in the playoffs count; he threw 3 shutout innings in relief. (By save rules, he should get a save, right? The boxscore did not list one for him.) Trevor Farrell got the loss for the Express.
Winner of tonight’s game goes to the finals!
Staunton 7, Waynesboro 6 (Braves lead series, 1-0)
The Braves shocked the Generals with a 4-run bottom of the 9th inning to wipe out a 6-3 deficit and win game one, 7-6.
Off closer Frankie Romano, making his third appearance in a row, the Braves singled 4 times in a row, and then Brad Jarreau walked in the fateful 9th. Dillon Cate came in to put out the fire, but walked Austin Edens to force in the Braves’ 3rd run. He then got Ryan Crile to pop out for the first out, but Kurtis Brown singled in the winning run right after.
Romano got the loss, while Aaron Hooven got the win with an amazing 5 innings of relief.
The Braves visit Waynesboro tonight for game 2. A Staunton win ends it, while the Generals need a win to stay alive.
