Hitter of the Day

Jake Brodt

Jake Brodt

Our hitter of the day is Aldie’s Jake Brodt, from Santa Clara! Jake had his second 4-hit day in the last three games, going 4-5, with 2 runs, an RBI, and a double. (He had 4 hits on July 3rd as well) He’s now hitting 292/294/446 in 65 at-bats this summer.

Will Decker, Aldie: 3-5, run, 4 RBIs, 3B, SB
Chase Lunceford, Front Royal: 2-4, 2 RBIs, 2 2B, SB (once thrown out at 3rd when he overslid the base- but he may have missed second base on the play as well)

Kameron Esthay, Harrisonburg: 2-5, 3 RBIs, walk-off single

Pitcher of the Day

With pitch counts these days, it’s pretty rare to see a VBL pitcher throw a complete game, but that’s just what

Brett Sasse

Brett Sasse

happened last night: Waynesboro’s Brett Sasse, from Nebraska-Omaha, not only threw a complete game, but threw a shutout as well. Over the nine innings (and only 89 pitches!), Brett allowed 2 hits, didn’t walk a single batter, and struck out 6. He earned the win, of course, and had a game score of 89. Brett is 1-1, 2.10 in 30 innings this summer so far.

Others of Note

Harrison Richards, Charlottesville: 4 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 1 BB, 3 K’s, win
Jason Seever, Aldie: 5 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 3 BB, 6 K’s, win (64)
Alex Lewandowski, Aldie: 4 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 2 BB, 7 K’s
Ryan Bennett, Woodstock: 7 IP, 0 hits, 4 runs, 0 earned, 2 BB, 6 K’s, loss (73). I don’t think I’ve ever seen a line score quite like this one. Ryan had a great game, but his defense let him down, committing 5 total errors.
Mario Morales, Front Royal: 3.2 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 BB, 2 K’s
Jared Dotac, Harrisonburg: 4 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 BB, 1 K
Nick McIntyre, Charles Town: 6 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 1 BB, 2 K’s (65)
Randy Sanchez, Charles Town: 4 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 BB, 4 K’s, win
