Minor League Starting Pitchers, Thursday-Saturday (Devenski no-hitter!)

Let’s take a look at our last few days of minor league starting pitchers, which includes a no-hit outing by Chris Devenski!

Thursday, May 28

  • Matt Benedict (Haymarket 2009-10) for AA Altoona: 5 IP, 10 hits, 6 earned runs, 1 BB, 3 K’s, loss, 9-5, game

  • Elih Villanueva (Luray 2007) for AAA Norfolk: 6.1 IP, 10 hits, 5 earned runs, 5 BB, 1 K’s, win, 6-5, game score of 29. Elih is 5-4, 4.08 in 57.1 innings in Double-A and Triple-A this year. (Will he get another major league start sometime this year?
  • Brad Mills (Harrisonburg 2005) for AAA Nashville: 7 IP, 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 BB, 1 K, win, 3-2, game score of 63. Brad’s pitching very well after a slow start- he’s 2-5, 3.74 in 53 innings overall.
  • Chris Huffman (Staunton 2012-13) for A Fort Wayne: 6.1 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 4 BB, 4 K’s, loss, 1-0, game score of 65. No run support for the Fort Defiance product. Chris is now 1-3, 4.50 in 20 innings in 2015.
  • Javier Salas (Luray 2011) for A Brevard County. Another excellent start! 6 IP, 6 hits, 0 runs, 2 BB, 5 K’s, win, 2-0, game score of 63. Javi needs to go to the next level, as he’s now 4-3, 2.32 in 54.1 innings.

Friday, May 29

  • Sam Howard (Staunton 2012) for A Asheville: 5 IP, 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 0 BB, 4 K’s, loss, 5-1, game score of 53. Sam is 2-5, 4.02 in 40.1 innings. He’s really improving!
  • Chris Devenski (Woodstock 2011) for AA Corpus Christi: 5 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 BB, 4 K’s, win, 4-0, game score

  • Tyler Thornburg (Winchester 2008) for AAA Colorado Springs: 6.1 IP, 7 hits, 3 earned runs, 0 BB, 4 K’s, win, 8-3, game score of 51. Tyler’s now 1-2, 4.41 in 34.2 innings.
  • Ryan Yarbrough (Luray 2012) for A Bakersfield: 6 IP, 7 hits, 6 earned runs, 2 BB, 6 K’s, loss, 6-2, game score of 38. Ryan is struggling a bit in the California League right now, but do keep in mind that it’s a really, really tough place to pitch. He’s now 2-5, 4.59 in 51 innings pitched.
  • Matthew Shepherd (Waynesboro 2009) for A Lake Elsinore: 6 IP, 5 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 BB, 5 K’s, win, 8-5, game score of 54. Matt is now 1-2, 7.20 in 22.2 innings.

Saturday, May 30

  • Brandon Sinnery (Winchester 2009) for AA Mobile: 5 IP, 6 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 3 BB, 2 K’s, loss, 7-3, game score of 36. Brandon is 4-3, 4.78 in 52.2 innings in 2015.
  • Harrison Cooney (Front Royal 2012) for A Inland Empire: 5 IP, 7 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 2 BB, 3 K’s, win, 6-4, game score of 40. Cooney’s 1-3, 4.88 in 51.2 innings.
  • Austin Gomber (Luray 2012) for A Peoria: 6.1 IP, 2 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 3 BB, 7 K’s, loss, 4-3, game score of 63. Austin’s now 4-3, 3.29 in 54.2 innings in 2015.

Scheduled for Sunday, May 31

  • Taylor Hill (Winchester 2008) for AAA Syracuse. But he was called up? Stay tuned on this one.
  • Drew Rucinski (Luray 2009-10) for AAA Salt Lake

  • The Valley League starts this coming Friday!
