ATVL’s #5 reliever in the 2014 Valley League season is Winchester’s Luke Mould, who is a current senior for Alabama Huntsville.
Luke threw a large number of innings for the Royals in 12 games out of the bullpen, along with 3 starts. Overall, he went 1-2, 2.04, with 4 saves, a .232 batting average against, 1.133 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9, and 8.7 K/9 in 35 1/3 innings. He pitched in relief from May 30th to July 6th. From this point, three of his last four appearances were starts. In fact, Lucas threw a complete game shutout in his last appearance in the Valley, on July 25th at Aldie.
He made 9 appearances in a row out of the bullpen without allowing an earned run; a stretch covering 8 1/3 innings.
Let’s take a look at his college stats for the UAH Chargers. As a freshman in 2012, he went 1-0, 4.50 in 32 innings, while striking out 27 (he started 2 games). He threw exclusively out of the ‘pen in 2013 as a sophomore, going 4-1, 2.20, with 24 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings. He was named 1st team All-Gulf South Conference for that performance.
As a junior in 2014, Luke went 5-1, 2.78 in 19 games and 32 1/3 innings (and one start). He struck out 20 and walked 8.
So far in 2015, Luke has pitched in one game, earning the win after 2 shutout innings.
