So, today, we have #9B, Taylor Davis, from Staunton. The 6-4 lefty from Ferrum is a Staunton native; he went to R.E. Lee for high school. In fact, Taylor was a batboy for the Braves when he was 10 years old!
For the Braves last summer, Taylor went 1-0, 1.54, with a .186 opponent’s batting average, 0.855 WHIP, 1.5 BB/9, and 3.1 K/9 in 11 2/3 innings pitched. He threw in 9 total games.
For Ferrum, Taylor is listed as a two-way player, and indeed, for Taylor’s freshman and sophomore years, he didn’t appear on the mound. He batted 5 times in 2012, and 15 times in 2013. As a junior in 2014, Taylor appeared at the plate 18 times, and pitched in 15 games, totaling 11 innings. He finished 1-0, 3.27, with 17 hits, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts in those 11 innings.
Taylor’s a smart kid, too. He was named to the USA South Academic All-Conference team in all three years: 2011-12, 2012-13, and 2013-14.
Congratulations on an excellent season, Taylor, and keep up the good work in the classroom!
