Devenski, Buckley Named Players of the Week by MiLB

We’ve gone through this before, but just in case you’ve forgotten, each week names a hitter and pitcher of the week for each minor league. ATVL is there, of course, checking each week just in case.

For the week ended July 6, two former Valley Leaguers were honored for their performances in the California League: Chris Devenski (Woodstock 2011) and Sean Buckley (Staunton 2009-10).

This is what John Parker had to say about Devenski:

(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 0 BB, 8 K)
In 2012, Devenski produced one of the finest performances of the Minor League season: a 16-strikeout no-hitter in which he allowed one base runner. That’s a difficult feat to reproduce, and the 23-year-old right-hander had a tough 2013 season in which he posted a 6.60 ERA. After firing seven scoreless innings at Stockton on Wednesday, Devenski is rebounding nicely and has won his last four decisions. The parent Astros are also impressed — they promoted him to Double-A Corpus Christi yesterday.

Chris pitched in Corpus Christi two nights ago in his Double-A debut, and allowed only a solo home run in 4 innings.

And here is what Sam Dykstra wrote about Buckley:

(.500/.556/1.000, 6 G, 12-for-24, 3 2B, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 8 R, 2 BB, 4 K)
Buckley was last named a Player of the Week in August 2012 with Class A Dayton, and it’s been a long road back to the honor. He played only six games for Bakersfield last season due to an elbow injury that eventually required Tommy John surgery to repair. He played 24 games for Dayton at the start of the season, sat out a month, returned to the Blaze in late June and has been on fire ever since. The right-handed slugger, who has played exclusively as a DH this season, homered in three straight games from Wednesday to Friday and collected all 12 of his RBIs in his first four games of the week. His line stands at .421/.443/.719 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 14 games since coming back to the Cal League.

Sean hit another home run on the 7th, giving him 5 homers in his last ten games! He’s taking off…..

Congrats to both Chris and Sean!
