Georgia Southern went to Tallahassee to play in the NCAA Regionals, seeded #4. Out of 4.
Sam Howard (Staunton 2012) has changed all that, at least temporarily. The former Brave shut out national #5 seed Florida State today, 7-0, sending the Seminoles to the loser’s bracket and GSU to a winner’s bracket game against Kennesaw State tomorrow.
The big story, though, is Howard. He threw an astounding number of pitches- 137- in his first career 9-inning shutout. It was only the second time Florida State has been shut out all year. Howard allowed only 2 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 10.
Sam is now 7-6, 2.35, with 81 hits, 22 walks, and 94 strikeouts in 95 2/3 innings pitched. He is projected to be picked relatively high in this June’s draft.
Way to go, Sam!
